Canine Escorts
NOTE: Our Canine Escorts Program is currently at capacity
Shelters are a difficult place for any dog. They can be loud, scary, and often overwhelming. In order to minimize stress and increase overall wellness, we want the dogs in our care to get out of the shelter, for day trips, overnights, and short term foster homes.
Criteria
Canine escorts need to complete a one-hour training program consisting of handling safety, emergency procedures, body language, learning theory, and the trauma-informed approach.
We also ask that you get to know the dog with which you’ll be working by meeting them at the shelter, taking them for a walk, playing in the enrichment yard, and trying a day trip. If that goes well, you’ll be able to do an overnight.
We are not accepting new applications at the present time. Please check back in November.
